INTO THE VOID
Thursday September 28
Thursday October 26
Thursday November 9
Thursday November 23
7 – 9 p.m.
This workshop is for folks who want to improve their ability to work with nothing but themselves when they go on stage. No planning, no props, no setups, no costumes.
The workshop will involve two main exercises:
Rapid-fire elimination: Come on stage and try something to make us laugh. If you flop, you get booted off and wait your turn to try again.
Fill the time: Each performer gets five minutes on stage to find what works. Start with yourself, mine the present moment, follow your impulse.
The objective is to offer an opportunity for clowns and performers to get some stage time and strengthen their ability to be present with the audience while they try (and fail) to make them laugh. Embrace the flop!
Because this is designed to provide a sort of “gym” for performers, it is recommended that you have taken at least one clown or idiot or Brunch workshop/class to attend.
About the facilitator:
Emily Jeffers is an actor and clown who has trained at L’Ecole Philippe Gaulier and with instructors from the Idiot Workshop LA, including John Gilkey, Kevin Krieger, Gemma Soldati and Ian Bratschie. She has also trained with Aitor Basauri (of Spymonkey Theatre), John Beale, Deanna Fleysher, Chad Damiani, Jaime Mears and Eric Davis (Red Bastard). She is known for her characters Bitty-Bat, Sheonardo DiCaprio, and Evangelina Peppermint, and has performed at Toronto Fringe Festival and Toronto Sketchfest. Like you, she is a learner and a performer of the beautiful art that is clown.
