Plain Clothes Clown with Kevin Krieger

In this 3-day intensive, we will establish the basic tenets of clown and put them into practice through a series of improvisational exercises. Accompanied by live direction, performers will be challenged to expand their vocal and physical range, while also developing and refining their comedic rhythm. These exercises will be intentionally enigmatic to inspire risk-taking, failure and accidentally beautiful (or hilarious) truth telling. We won’t be hiding behind noses or characters, so participants must be ready to make a fool of themselves. This class is not for beginners to performance, but it would make for a great first clown class. It is also excellent for seasoned clown performers looking to further develop their skill set. The majority of this class will be solo performance, so each student will receive prescriptive prompts, direction and feedback to meet them at their individual level of play.

**NOTE: Kevin will be performing his show, Honest Work on Thursday July 25 at 9:30 and again on Friday July 26 at 9:30 at Sweet Action. 1 comp ticket will be included in the price of the workshop!

About the instructor:

Kevin Gregory Krieger is a comedian and director based in Los Angeles, CA. Combining clown, standup, sketch and improvisation, his live performances have taken him to stages across the region, including Pasadena’s Civic Center Auditorium where he was featured on NBC’s America’s Got Talent. Under the tutelage and direction of John Gilkey (Cirque Du Soleil), Kevin performed in the critically-acclaimed improvisational clown ensemble The Murge, which LA Weekly dubbed, "Spontaneous theater of the absurd…LA’s craziest improv show.” Kevin would go on to train in the Idiot Workshop pedagogy and teach for the workshop for nearly a decade. In 2023, Kevin directed Claire Woolner’s solo show A Retrospection which was called “captivating throughout” by The New York Times and went on to win Best of Hollywood Fringe. Kevin currently teaches clown from his very own theater (Public Displays of Altadena @pda_space) where you can catch him performing his solo show: An Honest Work. You can watch his shows on twitch.tv/pda_space or tune in for the highlights @kevingregorykrieger on instagram..
