open to all improvisational performing artists
investigate ways intimacy principles and consent forward practices robustly support
conscientious and courageous moment to moment interplay.
Let’s face it, no one likes to play with an asshole. At least not the kind whose behavior leaves fellow performers feeling demeaned, drained, or disrespected both on stage and off. Maybe you’ve left a rehearsal or gig undeservedly feeling somewhat like an asshole. Or perhaps there was that one asshole from the audience that derailed the whole bit…Whatever the case- this workshop offers tools and strategies to help ward off all kinds of assholery.
Morning Session 10-1pm:
Introduce and explore various intimacy fundamentals for live performance and other best practices to create a shared vocabulary of play. Discover, discuss, deploy strategies to reduce miscommunication and bolster artistic confidence on and off the stage.
Lunch 1-2pm
Afternoon Session 2-5pm:
Create a shared practice and apply to moment to moment play between artists and within the audience/artist relationship. Investigate ways of releasing artistic work and coming back to an everyday state of being. Discuss findings.
Please come dressed to move
with the preparatory knowledge that interpersonal contact will be explored.
This workshop invites the understanding that we are an international community of dedicated artists with a common desire- even when our points of view, values and beliefs may differ- to be bold, honest, mutually supportive performers striving for innovative yet sustainable artistic growth.
disclaimers: this workshop explores pedagogical ideas.
knowledge shared is not a replacement for therapy nor counted toward any certification process.
if discoveries cultivate the desire to pursue further knowledge,
I will happily provide resources to help you on your forward journey.
Fun facts about your fearless facilitator:
Corey has been working as an Intimacy Choreographer for the last four years. She’s collaborated on productions at Crow’s, Tarragon, Theatre Passe Muraille, Thousand Island Playhouse, Lake George Dinner Theatre, and serves as an educator, intimacy choreographer, and mentor in academic theatre throughout the GTA and Ontario Province. Her applied research investigates embodiment through the understanding that the performing artist crafts from their own humanity, therefore the performing artist’s humanity must be considered while crafting.
