If we’re super, super nice to Jaime perhaps we can do a little bit of a show-offy “hey, here’s what we did during this workshop” after the final class? That would be nice. Side note, this is the year of bouffon. Side side note: we need some more DJ Menorah sets (and yes, that is a bouffon adjacent comment).

What What in the Play Play Show! Holy moly there’s a Play Play show on MONDAY!!! And there’s a whole write up that I got sent to include here and IT’S VERY WELL WRITTEN and ENGAGING:
What in the world continues to break your heart? What in the world puts you at ease?
The Play Play Ensemble has been creating together for the past seven weeks, every Monday at Sweet Action Theatre, home of the Ridiculous. We have been exploring how to push the stupid into the profound, and how intensely we can listen to each other as an ensemble. Actors brought their own stories into the theatre, as an archive from which to draw inspiration. Themes include borders, gentrification, parents, disability, boundaries, and the environment. Audiences will laugh, question, and be perturbed.
This is just for Clarke, if you’re not Clarke please don’t read the next few sentences. Hi Clarke, how’s it going? Remember that idea we were talking about, moving towards some sort of ongoing Silent Musical practice/coaching session with some sort of Brunch team? I think that’s a good idea still. Maybe we can aim to set something up for the fall? I really do think there’s something there. Oh snapppppp maybe I want to be on a team. Dang. That’s kind of exciting. One big shoutout to Fateema for being selected in the 2023 Norman Jewison Film Program. I’m secretly still hoping Fateema will have time to wrangle some Sweet Film Club Action for all the Sweeties but maybe Fateema is now PRICED OUT OF THE MARKET (and deservedly so). Anyways, BOOM shoutout. Quick one for Josh and Morgan and the Sweet and Sultry crew. Another sellout show. BOOM shoutout. Another quick one to Kendall: fantastic, great, phenomenal bit, I hope you move to Vegas and get PAIDDDDDD. BOOM shoutout. Ytosse and Taheed from season 1 of Temptation Island, I was rooting for you the whole time, but you CAN’T BRING KIDS INTO IT BOOM shoutout.
Corporate Shilling FOR DAYZ
Well, it’s Fringe season and you know what that means… yes, the CLOWNS ARE TAKING OVER! They’re coming at me super hard for lots of FringeSHILLing and I am more inclined to SHILL NOW MORE THAN EVER B4. Why? Because I’m GETTING PAYYYED** BB, those clown dollas flow like lava.
** I am not getting paid, I just like supporting the clowns because when they hit it big I’ll feel nice.
Quick aside, what do we think, is clown on the big upswing? A tsunami of very fonny? I’ve bet my family’s future on it. So this better pay off BIG TIME!
SO, let’s get to it. Some quick FringSHILLing and then we DRIVE ON to a new op-ed by Victoria (hurray!). Reviews by Gordon in advance of a short Fringe gig at the Edmonton Journal. As it turns out their highest rating is a 3 stars, not for everyone. So that’s my scale.
James & Jamesy: Easy As Pie
British comedy darlings clown the heck out of things. Way too many 5 star review including from the Edmonton Journal. Don’t be ridiculous cousin Larry, just go see this show. If it’s as good as O Christmas Tea then you’re GONNA NEED A BIGGER THEATRE. I remember having delicious nachos at the Keg after that show and it capped off a wonderful evening the way only nachos can shoutout The Keg BOOM shoutout.

Ancient Dying Chinese Dialect
Directed by local hero Ken Hall and starring local legend Chantal Lim it’s just goddamned great and it’s probably already sold out. WE GET IT CHANTAL, THIS IS AMAZING. Also, Chantal, if you need any more help on some lighting stuff let me know. That’s how good this show is, I just want to get my hands dirty on the LIGHTING.

White Collars
Directed by local hero Ken Hall WAIT ANOTHER SHOW KEN? WE GET IT, YOU’RE GREAT. I know all the people in this show. I did a bunch of improv with them at Bad Dog many years ago. Now they’ve gone pure corporate and I LOVE IT. Quick aside: Office Space (the movie) literally changed my life. I used to get way more amped up about stuff before watching that movie. I don’t know anything about this show. Nothing. But I’ll tell you what - there’s no way I’m going to miss it because it’s probably going to be the one show I’m going to give a standing ovation to. I once gave a standing ovation to Martin Dockery but I got bullied into it. I once also gave a standing ovation to Martin Dockery because I was crying and loved the show so much. Shoutout to Amanda Parker BOOM shoutout, Anyways, this one looks like a can’t miss just from the poster. IS THAT A WHEEL OF CHEESE and someone in a RED BODYSUIT? YES, WINNER of Fringe. Holy cow I’ve actually talked myself into getting really excited about this show. Audience Pick.

I don’t care for this one. I don’t care for anybody who is better looking than me and more talented than me and Chase and Kenneth ARE BOTH. Go take your talent and charm elsewhere. Don’t see this one. Unless you just like talent and charisma and love to laugh. Me personally? I DON’T CARE FOR IT.
